The Dutch comic book author Jan Kruis invented "Saint Pancake" (Sint Pannekoek) in the mid 1980s for his popular comic strip series Jan, Jans en de kinderen. He set the date as the 29th of November and declared it to be "traditionally" celebrated with a pancake dinner and optionally by wearing a pancake on your head.

That seems ridiculously restrictive... For example, how is taking a picture of something public different from taking a screenshot of something public?

Another reason to use screenshots instead of links is that many people will not want to give the platform that is being linked to any clics... (Xwitter, FB, Instagram, Substack, YouTube, what have you...)

The main advantages of using screenshots instead of links is that screenshots still work if the links disappear, and screenshots can be provided with an alt text while images in a preview will not have an alt text. So basically: permanence and accessibility.
