Re: Burnham, someone else just said it's possible he's being set up to fail because the constituency is so staunchly Deform. I was just reading a post on GPLB saying exactly that too. I'm more willing to believe that scenario than Burnham's "journey".
@annehargreaves @Geri I doubt that - the Greens took control of most of the metropolitan wards in Manchester last week. It's totally feasible in Makersfield though.

Pretty surprising that it was Josh Simons - a previously staunch Labour Together person - who resigned to allow Burnham to stand. I can't understand the hullabaloo around Burnham tbh. He's still a Blairite.

I'm not easily shocked by police brutality but this is something else.
Police declared a state of emergency in the Dutch town of Loosdrecht last night, when hundreds of neo-Nazis set fire to an asylum centre with fifteen people inside.
@HarriettMB I think it might be the worst police behaviour I've seen with relation to Palestine/anti-genocide protests (proportional to size of demonstration). I don't think I've ever seen use of dogs, *especially* in Europe.

@dillyd I've used it quite a bit over the last few years and have found it decent, esp on price, even at fairly short notice. I do like the ability to split the ticket so you can get the best deal.

The makers of the documentary "Gaza: Doctors Under Attack" won a BAFTA last night. One of the filmakers included this in his acceptance speech:
"Just a question to the BBC: given that you dropped our film, will you drop us from the BAFTA screening later tonight?"
And guess what? They did.
