On #ThisDayInHistory in 1887 the #DawesAct was signed into law. This subdivided #Indigenous reservations into individual plots, forcing capitalism onto #NativeAmericans, and allowed much of it to be sold by the government to white settlers. 100 million acres were lost. #LandBack

The nonsensically-named #CongoFreeState was declared on #ThisDayInHistory in 1885. It was the personal possession of #KingLeopoldII of #Belgium. His forces killed (& sometimes ate) up to 10 million people to extract profit, and mutilated millions for failing to meet work quotas.

#NYPD cops saw Guinean student #AmadouDiallo standing near his home on #ThisDayInHistory in 1999. They demanded ID, so he reached into a pocket to get it. One pig panicked & fired, but fell from his own recoil. The others fired 41 shots, hitting Diallo 19 times, killing him. #BLM
