  • It's been like 6 weeks since I drove in New Zealand, and today I again hit the windshield wiper instead of the turn signal.

@sundogplanets I spent 6 weeks with friends in NZ after college and spent part of the time burning my hands in the bathroom because the hot water tap was on the opposite side to at home.

…well then I got home and burned my hands a few more weeks there unlearning the change!

Glad to see respirators in these photos. I saw a different article that said people were wearing ‘face coverings’ and that was very concerning.

  • If we go with the "7 continents" counting, how many continents have you lived on (as little as a couple days, but airport layovers don't count)?
    lemniscate@infosec.exchangeL lemniscate@infosec.exchange

@meganL Five, though only two have been in terms of years and the others were either months or weeks.

Haven’t yet made it to South America and it’s probably unlikely I’ll get to Antarctica.

Success. Made it to the local plant nursery that has a particularly good selection…IF you make it prior to Mother’s Day. That day, half the town descends on the place.

I still need to get some more flowers, but I think I got all of the vegetable starts I need for this season. Beans and zucchini and such I’ll be planting via seed, but I need a jumpstart on things like tomatoes.

  • It has been somewhat surreal seeing the various reactions to the cruise ship hantavirus outbreak, given that where I live it’s something we have to be mindful of when cleaning out garages/attics/so on or when you find mouse droppings in the pantry.

    @lapt0r Oh, I bet!

Around here we have to tell people that moved from the east that, yes, the deer mice are super cute…here is why you should not interact with them At All.

  • Removed the zippers from the 1993-era North Face jacket which I am replacing with my own-sewn jacket.
    lemniscate@infosec.exchangeL lemniscate@infosec.exchange

@ai6yr How does the ‘coating’ on the inside of the fabric look? I had a 90s era North Face jacket hold up a long time, until it got so worn on the underside of the shoulders from friction that it wasn’t able to keep out moisture anymore. (Fortunately I was just in my own driveway when I figured out what was wrong!)

  • The latest bottle of ‘Tide Free & Gentle’ (unscented) detergent we purchased very clearly has a scent.
    lemniscate@infosec.exchangeL lemniscate@infosec.exchange

@NefariousAryq @sollat @ai6yr I’m so glad you mentioned that, I didn’t realize they had an unscented one. But it looks like my grocery is now carrying it. The change they made to the original scent was making me nauseated big time. The lemon was one is tolerable but still not great for me on things like silicon utensils.

@cassolotl The lined and boxed corners style ones are great! Nice and sturdy. Also practicing on those helped me later sew a boxed cornered lined tote bag.

My irritation levels are shooting upward by virtue of having looked at a CPT coding situation for a family member’s medical bill. Pretty much a guarantee everytime I look at CPT codes.

This time it appears they’ve been charged an extra ~$100 for daring to ask about a sinus issue during a Medicare wellness visit. Unclear why neither Medicare nor supplementary covered that so that is being investigated next. I’m not sure the claim was sent to the supplementary.
