I haven't been able to find a loaf of gluten-free bread for under $8.50 for two months now. -
Just finished the excellent Hav, a novel about a fictional city by expert travel writer Jan Morris.@adrianhon I love that book, so if that itch ever translates into something?

"The concept of “defensive walking” concedes to a status quo where the most vulnerable are expected to bear the cognitive and physical load of navigating a system designed for the convenience and speed of the most dangerous."@johannab @dtkmelissa Absolutely agree, and also I am officially interested in whatever you produce as takeaways from that project. I'm handling it more in the organizing realm here, but cognitive load is really top of mind (heh) right now.

"The concept of “defensive walking” concedes to a status quo where the most vulnerable are expected to bear the cognitive and physical load of navigating a system designed for the convenience and speed of the most dangerous."@dtkmelissa I am not surprised smart things are coming from Lanrick -- longtime fan of his work here!
But that's an excellent telling detail. *Cognitive load* feels like the thing people are covertly trying to shove onto other people's plates in a lot of spaces right now.

Turning into summer quickly over here.@MCDuncanLab @ai6yr @hisstogramma I can't see what's above this comment, but if this is a "resources please?" post, just wanted to ask if I can offer anything. I'm putting together models for public/more fruit trees so I have this big file of people who are good to talk to about various aspects of the problem, and I'm happy to share anything relevant.

Quietly in the night, you are handed the Tree Ray.@GinevraCat @afewbugs @sinituulia Thanks. Appreciate it lots.

Quietly in the night, you are handed the Tree Ray.@GinevraCat @afewbugs @sinituulia I have this theory that more problems than we think are caused by much fewer people than we fear and I am ready to test it with reforestation.
(ETA: Sorry, I also on reflection feel like I should say that yup, I'm aware how close that treads to some very real ethical lines and have no plans on going full ecofascist. Just: real frustrated and scared this week. Carry on.)

Quietly in the night, you are handed the Tree Ray.@sinituulia Bless you and thank you for finding a prosocial version of the "How many bullets?" game.

what the—and I cannot stress this enough—absolute fuck:@phire The first place I went was: "Imagine having that job. Like, identifying someone's sad morning genitals for a machine learning program."

On one hand, this year's garden plan is getting simpler: I tried to do too much last year and paid for it.On one hand, this year's garden plan is getting simpler: I tried to do too much last year and paid for it.
On the other hand, it's expanded from 8.5" x 11" into two 8.5" x 14" mega-sheets so I have space to plot out and colour-code my succession planting. In green ink for cool crops and oxblood for hot. >.>
(This year's priorities: Mess around less with new crops, consolidate skills on the ones I know and like; really take care of my soil this season. Hard into compost, hard into heat protection/mulch.)
