  • SELF-PUBLISHED AUTHOR FRIENDSThis *INSANE* email from Barnes & Noble WTF—no more than 100 books and they start deleting??—removing titles that don't meet minimum sales?
    kaidenshi@exquisite.socialK kaidenshi@exquisite.social

@susankayequinn It seems so self-contradictory to me. "You can only have 100 titles, if you try to have more than that we will delete titles. Also you better keep your sales up or we will also delete titles, causing your sales to drop, causing us to delete more titles."

@libreleah It's a process, and once again thank you so much for taking this on! Passionate and driven development like this is priceless.

@lisamelton New follower here and definitely not a bot! I don't really post much that's boost-worthy though.

@Gammitin I promise I'm not trying to dampen your enthusiasm, as I share it, but I just hope you have a lot of spare capacitors on hand. I lost many a great machine of that era to the plague.

  • WTF LibreWolf??
    kaidenshi@exquisite.socialK kaidenshi@exquisite.social

WTF LibreWolf?? I saw this just now, it wasn't there earlier today. Seriously, no one asked for this. I certainly didn't. This is skeevy at best. If I want a VPN I'll spin up my own, that I control and trust. This just feels like Mozilla's money-grab shit is infecting what was the only truly good web browser left.

  • 3D printing filaments i have some first- or second-hand experience with, in no particular order:
    kaidenshi@exquisite.socialK kaidenshi@exquisite.social

@whitequark I've only ever used PLA, PETG, and nylon for prints. PETG is my favorite of those for my own projects. At work I use PLA for prototyping and throwaway parts (e.g. we needed some caps for some aerosol cans that were missing their original caps and we wanted to protect them in shipping, five minutes to design in FreeCAD and 20 minutes to print each).

I use nylon for a floating bearing I designed to replace the obsolete mass produced bearing used in equipment we sell, it has to be nylon so it can slip and spin in the hinge without breaking down, while still structurally sound enough to not collapse and break under lateral pressure.

  • With both the Linux kernel and systemd infected by "AI" and now also the first steps towards government-mandated age-gating and thus the definitive end of privacy, I feel more done with technology than ever before.
    kaidenshi@exquisite.socialK kaidenshi@exquisite.social

@thomholwerda I've joked about this before and now it feels like more than just gallows humor: One day I'm going to just say "fuck it", go live deep in the woods, my only piece of technology an old crusty ThinkPad running OpenBSD that I carry to the edge of town once a week to plug it in and grab a free Wi-Fi signal so I can charge it up, download and respond to email, check in on Fedi, run syspatch and/or sysupgrade, and disappear into the woods again. The townspeople will speak of the "smart Sasquatch" they occasionally see creeping around outside of the local Starbucks holding his laptop up high like an offering to the gods, but really it's just to catch a good signal.
