@EdwinG I sometimes feel the tech is heavily optimized for Montreal because the engineer live there but they just don’t have engineers in other cities that get to see this feature being imperfect (!)

Interestingly it works better on line 1 than line 5. So I wonder if it’s optimized to certain trains, acceleration/breaking between the 2 lines is so different.

@EdwinG yeah… sometimes! It stopped working after 2 stops. It’s been hit or miss for me in Toronto.

I like their technology but it just sadly often doesn’t work

@jfmezei they have cellular but the transit app relies on GPS and GPS doesn’t work underground. And the timings in the app were all wrong so I guess they rely on the same bad feed than the next trains LED have

I’m really happy for everyone living around Eglinton that finally have access to decent transit.

It brought me to a place in the city I had never been. Discovered a beautiful park (Gladhurst Park) and great coffee shop around (Super Coffee) around Mount Dennis. Had great jerk chicken in Little Jamaica

Just can’t stop thinking that Scarborough (and Finch West) got the short hand of the stick with rapid transit stuck at every street light.

    -It’s very fast underground
-Stations are very deep (and cold!)
    -Spacing of stops seems adequate

Waiting 10min for the next train feels long when you’re used to the subway, especially since the timing of the next train signs are entirely wrong still months after opening (and Transit app also doesn’t work underground)

  • Canada’s first fully Indigenous-owned department store closes amid funding challenges

I'm glad we have the Indigenous Arts & Culture Fund, and I hope one day we can find ways for people like the founder to be able to showcase arts in commercial spaces in an inclusive way.

As someone who just shut down their small retail brand that also had a strong cultural angle, I know how hard it is out there. So I empathize with the owner.

However as a retailer you’re always a for profit company, few cultural grants out there ever fits the criteria. Im sorry to see how she was misled to think she « could » get approved for an art grant. I see the argument, you give lots of exposure to artists and artistic pieces. But it’s always no, they don’t see business that way.

  • I feel like many might be overstating the significance of the Claude Code leak.
    jerome@jasette.facil.servicesJ jerome@jasette.facil.services

I feel like many might be overstating the significance of the Claude Code leak. It's not their model, just the client to connect to it. Sure there's a few funny things in the code, but it changes nothing really to what AI is becoming for coders.

What it shows however is that very high usage of AI for code without proper review and agressive development targets can lead to major mistakes. Anthropic is known for using their own tools quite agrresively.

@mayintoronto @javensbukan @evdelen for me it’s not about the allegations, the court can handle it.

But it’s important to know the largest fediverse instance in Canada is very centralized.

It’s not a separate non profit, all the servers are in his home and under his name (assets), he pays all the bills and collect donations under his name.

So to know that he’s being sued for 300K is important info. It’s all the same bucket. If he loses or have big lawyer fees, this is all the same entity.

  • Iran keeps hitting oil and energy infrastructure.
    jerome@jasette.facil.servicesJ jerome@jasette.facil.services

@hamishb I think Israel realize it's their last chance, they have been dreaming of bombing Iran for decades. But they know the political window is closing so might as well go all in.

Same for Lebanon, time to hit while the headlines are on Iran, and if they can gain some territory, they know it will be permanent and they can keep achieving their dream of Greater Israel.

    jerome@jasette.facil.servicesJ jerome@jasette.facil.services

Iran doesn't need to destroy the US army or even kill US soldiers. They just need to make gas expensive. And there are many ways possible. That's what hurts the west. And they know it, it happened many times before! The previous oil crisis aren't exactly a secret.

Iran was also supplying tons of drones for Russia in Ukraine, it wasn't hard to guess that they would use their own weapons if they got attacked.

    jerome@jasette.facil.servicesJ jerome@jasette.facil.services

Iran keeps hitting oil and energy infrastructure. This is how they got the US by the balls. Trump can't afford a forever war that brings gas price through the roof ahead of the midterms. He's in deep shit.

And that's the thing with drones.. easy to build in mass quantities and hard to defend against, there's no way they can have anti-drone protection in every country around Iran.
