  • This has got to be one of the most bonkers stories about an Edmonton community league since, well, maybe ever.

@EllenInEdmonton Yeah, I can't imagine an amount of money this large is an accounting error or difference of budgeting interpretations (one can always hope). As you noted, adding in the auditing and legal costs will make the next few years a very rough path for this league. Community Leagues are in a tough enough spot these days with growing infrastructure costs and remaining relevant and active. Tough, tough stuff.
The connection to Mastodon is a whole other issue I'm unsure of how it plays out, though I suspect we will see effects - including folks leaving the server now.

Right-wing radicalization is driven by a scarcity mindset. When people’s material needs aren’t met, they’re far more likely to align with someone who says: “Be scared, and the answer is hating your neighbor.” Mutual aid is a direct counter to that. https://newrepublic.com/article/208099/kat-abughazaleh-mutual-aid-future

This has got to be one of the most bonkers stories about an Edmonton community league since, well, maybe ever. (And it may end up putting Canada's largest Mastodon seever into the news too.) https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmonton/inglewood-league-lawsuit-missing-funds-9.7136933

Parliament has little enough power to hold governments to account in minority situations. Under majority governments, it disappears. All of the worst, most abusive tendencies of governments are given free rein. https://www.theglobeandmail.com/opinion/article-minority-government-crisis-carney/
