At a time when community leagues everywhere are under a great deal of pressure, this scenario is a huge nightmare. Volunteers who run the league will have to spend an enormous number of hours and a lot of the league's money to mount this lawsuit. It's a reminder that any small non-profit group can easily be exploited by those with malicious intent. I'm sorry to leave an online community that I've greatly appreciated, but the Fediverse makes it relatively easy to migrate. -

I'm sorry to leave an online community that I've greatly appreciated, but the Fediverse makes it relatively easy to migrate.@EllenInEdmonton Yeah, I can't imagine an amount of money this large is an accounting error or difference of budgeting interpretations (one can always hope). As you noted, adding in the auditing and legal costs will make the next few years a very rough path for this league. Community Leagues are in a tough enough spot these days with growing infrastructure costs and remaining relevant and active. Tough, tough stuff.
The connection to Mastodon is a whole other issue I'm unsure of how it plays out, though I suspect we will see effects - including folks leaving the server now.
