@DLink @ij @randahl The original EU idea was that if our economies are strongly tied together, then we will not start another World War. Later, more has been added, such as being one strong block against big external threats and competitors.

@martinvermeer @ij @randahl There are propably quite many such differences in worldview, that makes it a long process to include the USA. But maybe just some of the states?

@Catha Yes, maybe a conditional membership - as long as they behave, they can stay, otherwise they are out

@ij @randahl Let’s invite Canada into the EU, and Mexico too, and rename it to the Atlantic Union. If the USA makes democratic improvements and fight corruption, they can then later apply for a membership.
