@Scienceisnotopinions @mcnado before it had been properly investigated, it wasn't such a far-fetched idea that ivermectin could have off-target benefits like mitigating covid symptoms. after all, weirder things have turned out to be essential medicines, like the compounds produced by mould (penicillin). there are also some existing medicines that work, even though we don't know how (like lithium).

of course now we know that ivermectin is useless against covid. but dismissing unusual ideas without investigating them could mean leaving future cures undiscovered.

@benroyce @peachfront entitlement sums it up. it's the mindset of Americans who want all the privileges of living a global superpower but none of the responsibility.

this is at the heart of choosing to be powerless, i.e. refusing to vote: power comes with responsibility, and these people think that by renouncing power they wash their hands of responsibility too. but power doesn't work that way: you have it whether you disavow it or not. refusing to act on a moral imperative doesn't negate either power or responsibility. it means that they used their power for ill.
