    Here in SE England, winter drags on, almost constantly grey gloom and rain. Mental & physical reserves are low, coughs & colds linger.

    However, I'm a bird listener and their song tells me Spring really will arrive: it's actually on its way.

    On Thursday, in low cloud & heavy rain, I heard my first blackbird sing his rich notes while stuck in heavy traffic.

    Yesterday, in between coughing & blowing my nose yet again, I heard the squeaky pump song of a Great Tit from the bare trees by the railway line.

    No special equipment required, just checking in around me whatever I'm doing.
