Here in SE England, winter drags on, almost constantly grey gloom and rain. Mental & physical reserves are low, coughs & colds linger.
However, I'm a bird listener and their song tells me Spring really will arrive: it's actually on its way.
On Thursday, in low cloud & heavy rain, I heard my first blackbird sing his rich notes while stuck in heavy traffic.
Yesterday, in between coughing & blowing my nose yet again, I heard the squeaky pump song of a Great Tit from the bare trees by the railway line.
No special equipment required, just checking in around me whatever I'm doing.

@HederaVulpes Chaffinch singing here, Song Thrush for a few weeks now. Blackbird lyrics continuing later each day. Not heard a Great Spotted Woodpecker drumming on our electric pole yet, but perhaps I’m deafer than I was last year

️Oh, that sounds brilliant! I moved from urban to suburban last April & I hear more birds, but garden rather than woodland.
