guys- the barrier to coding was pretty much always zero. and the funniest part is if you spent half the time you do on tweaking your md files, you’d be a decent coder.

@bjoreman omg what a good answer. i often asked something so basic like "why are we doing this?" and people would all stop and stare for a while. asking the really basic questions can be so useful AND people see it as a power move, which is hilarious.

@janov911 doing things one hates, that reminds me when i was working at [broadvision](https://broadvision.com/), i literally was crying in the toilets it was so terrible. there was a really good chinese restaurant nearby though. what a contrast. i went there every day.

@tusharhero well, i'm ok with a step stool. but anything beyond like 3 steps, that's just a life-risk for me. i can barely be trusted to use stairs. you know that feeling when you climb down and you're like 5 more steps, but then a little later its like WAIT, no, there's no steps left! and you're like, huh? i see more steps. but brain is like no, and you have to stop in rush hour and everyone is like girl, why are you blocking everyone. ya, thats me.

i'll go first: the ladder is a trap. it sucks climbing it the whole time and there is no cake. bonus: it's never worth it to work with assholes #career

@nina_kali_nina i think people in general feel like he contributed to biological research (https://arxiv.org/pdf/1805.03854) There's a ton of poor research, even AI led research these days. Plagiarised and falsified results. That hurts. Human subject based studies are sensitive, but they require ethics review board approval, and with that approval, I believe its perfectly fine to be a involved, I've done that. I wasn't the lead investigator, but I helped.

i think we give "careers" too much weight and it limits us. we can do and get paid for what we want. music, coding, marketing, product management, making games, medical research.
i've tinkered in all of those things. never got a degree in a single one. ofc this doesn't work for highly regulated practices like doctors and lawyers (lowkey "lawyer" looks so weird as a word, doesnt it??) but biological research? why not #hottake #career

For most of my life, I didn't have long hair. I don't think my experience is unique in that my motivation to wash my hair varies as an inverse polynomial in relation to its length.
