New by me: The FCC’s Router Crackdown Shouldn’t Surprise Anyone in Cybersecurity

This really did not come out of nowhere.

Consumer Wi-Fi routers have been showing up in botnets, proxy networks, and larger cybersecurity conversations for years. The FCC action is really the policy side of a problem security folks have been watching for a long time.

I wrote about the ruling, what it actually means, and why this is just as much a privacy story as it is a cybersecurity one.

The FCC’s latest router crackdown did not come out of nowhere. Consumer Wi-Fi routers have long been a privacy and cybersecurity risk.

New on the blog: Your Help Desk Is Now Part of the Attack Surface

Working in the MSP world, one thing that stands out to me is how much trust is built into normal support workflows.

That is exactly why attackers keep abusing them.

I wrote a new post on help desk impersonation, remote support abuse, Teams/vishing style attacks, and why identity security has to be part of the support process now.

Why MSPs need to treat help desk trust, remote support tools, and identity controls as one security problem.

Holy crap! Those reported price options are insane. I’m a long time “fanboy” no cap, but man these got me spinning.

“While the results varied, the tools were able to replace “in minutes what could take hours for a dedicated human investigator.””…. This is why AI is a huge challenge for cybersecurity.

  • I have made the choice to leave Discord.
    cyberseckyle@infosec.exchangeC cyberseckyle@infosec.exchange

I have made the choice to leave Discord. With all of the privacy issues revolving around Discord currently plus the Age verification stuff, it is just a bit ridiculous.

I have already peaced out on Ring already as I posted about on my site.

Leaving Discord though is a bit more complicated though. There a quite a bit of communities I am a part of (cybersecurity, tech, etc.) that are on Discord. Not sure if they are going to be moving somewhere else, probably not.

I am wondering if any of my cybersecurity and tech friends know of other places out there on the webs where communities are. IRC? Others? That I can hope on over to?

    Any suggestions?

Pls feel free to boost this for maximum help! Thanks.
