Stop searching names and start searching stories! 📚 I joined a panel for NGS to discuss how PERSI can unlock research clues you won't find anywhere else. I’ve updated the blog with the video, tips from NGS Magazine, and advice for the upcoming conference in Fort Wayne!

PERSI: MemberConnects! with the National Genealogical Society

A few weeks ago, I participated in a panel discussion about PERSI (the Periodical Source Index) through the National Genealogical Society's MemberConnects! event. I invited Dawne Slater, Jeanette Sheliga to join me to discuss PERSI, learn about how to best use it for your research, and how to access the articles it indexes. You can…

    Genealogical Gratitude – Coffee!

I don't know about you, but I am in love with coffee. I am so grateful for coffee and how it impacts my genealogical research. I come from a long line of coffee drinkers so I am sure it runs in the gene pool! I am especially grateful for peppermint mochas. Plain coffee (with cream and sugar) is an excellent treat for next to the computer in the chilly Colorado winters.

    RootsTech 2013

It has been about a month since I attended RootsTech. I wanted to let the dust settle a bit before I wrote about it. It was an enjoyable trip. As a mom of two kids, ages 10 and 12, it was a nice break from reality. Grandpa came and took care of the kids so my husband and I could attend.

    Attempting to be Organized

Being an "organized genealogist" is like trying to reach enlightenment. It seems like such an unattainable goal, like me climbing Mount Everest. (I'm lucky if I can climb the stairs sometimes!) However, there are many tips and tricks, blogs, books, magazines and people (they call them "professional organizers") to help you get and stay organized. A new Facebook community got me thinking about this topic.

Between the chaos of a cross-country move and major family milestones, my "to-do" list got a little dusty. But I’ve finally resurfaced! My website is officially updated with a refreshed lecture list. If your society is looking for a webinar speaker with fresh stories to tell, come see what's new.

    Lecture List Updated

Starting with the Pandemic in 2020, a lot of my record-keeping and lecture maintenance fell by the wayside. For a long time I felt like I was barely keeping it together. Not only were we dealing with a global pandemic, but I got a new full-time job, my son was off to college and needed…
