Another example of the mind-boggling form of construction that is excavating dwellings and objects out of a single huge rock. This time from the Kuda Buddhist caves in Maharashtra. It's not entirely clear from the photo, but the round stupa in the centre "grows out" of the floor and is connected to the ceiling. Dated to 1st century BCE.#history #architecture
