So, this may have something to do with the fact that we still haven't seen the official location of the rover at RMC 86.0000 after 2 days. 
Worth mentioning that in my out-of-the-loop experience, the #MMGIS people are figuring the location out in no time, or, in about half an hour from the time they get into their office in the morning, once the relevant images have arrived.
A new technology from #NASA #JPL enables #Perseverance to figure out its whereabouts without calling humans for help.
Dubbed Mars Global Localization, it features an algorithm that compares panoramic images from the roverβs navigation cameras with onboard orbital terrain maps, and runs on the CPU originally used by Perseverance to communicate with #Ingenuity. Calc's a fix in 2min with 25cm accuracy.
Using the new Mars Global Localization algorithm, NASAβs Perseverance rover can now pinpoint its exact location without help from engineers on Earth.

Six minutes before it started abrading the rock, #Perseverance captured a couple images of the spot it was going to operate on, from closing in distances.

The first image was captured in full sunlight, but the second was under the shadow of the turret, and has been processed to match the overall brightness of the first image. The final view is the same image but white balanced to show green / blue colors better.
