we saw a crane flying very low, and my husband commented that it’s big but surely it’s nothing compared to the eagles where I’m from, and I had to break it to him that bald eagles are quite rare (almost went extinct, though apparently that’s on the mend) and I had seen precisely zero of them in thirty years in the US

I keep being panicked about it being later than I thought, only to be confused five minutes later when I check again and it's not as late as I thought.@jernej__s @berglerma I believe what happens is Windows can just get stuck and stop applying NTP corrections until you manually completely shut off and restart NTP checks.

We are taking the train to go unfuck baby cousin’s malware-addled computer, and hopefully teach her the general idea for salvaging these things herself — she’s a compsci student but compsci programs rarely teach foundational computer unfucking.

It turns out one of my computers has drifted ten minutes fast and hasn't picked up an NTP correction?!

The chill I got when I downloaded the repo and realized the “exploit” was a zero byte file with a magic filename…@babble_endanger @oilheap if you have a password on bitlocker itself (as opposed to your Windows account) then yes, this debug backdoor cannot work.

The chill I got when I downloaded the repo and realized the “exploit” was a zero byte file with a magic filename…@jernej__s they're just empty log files (a header plus megabytes of zeroes), presumably because if they're missing entirely, something errors out before the flag gets processed

The chill I got when I downloaded the repo and realized the “exploit” was a zero byte file with a magic filename…@rst well, yes actually, having seen tons of firmware code, that’s quite normal and non-suspicious functionality does this all the time. it’s presumably just a guid

The charitable interpretation is that Microsoft accidentally shipped an internal test build to global production. The less charitable one isn’t very pleasant

Trying to find six sci-fi and fantasy novels with enby characters and i had it in my head to find three and three but dang there's a lot more of us in spaceships than there are casting spells :) anyone got any suggestions ?@catsalad @snosrapkungfu haha I should warn that the original draft I started in 2013 he/hims Rashk a lot more than I now like
the visual novel version I’m now working on a) will reduce the amount Rashk is he/himmed and increase the they/themmed b) portrays older Eldin as switching from she/her to they/them
