@BeateRich There are moving parts, so I’m sure there’s some noise, but I just put my ear against it and didn’t hear a thing.

@drdrang Just bought one of those myself! On a related note, saw someone who automated a power strip to cut power every night at midnight, and now they never have to reset the clock on their microwave.

@drdrang it fails when the central server goes down. It does, right? It does, right!?

@risottobias @lmorchard @TechConnectify Never watched this one. When I was a kid, all electric clocks were like this. Quartz movements didn’t become common until sometime in the 70s, I think.

@jonm I saw that, too. A strong indication of how unintuitive the clock UI is on most microwaves.

That’s what we used to use for our bearded dragon’s viv. They work really well. 😂

Sp got all fancy for the lights in the bird’s room though and replaced a light switch with a timer.

I agree they have a good purpose.

Ironically, following a power cut, I found my lamps on at 1:30am.

@drdrang WeHad one of those growing up but my parents would use it with a single lamp when we were on vacation.

I finally moved from X10 light switches to Insteon. So no sending signals over the Internet just to turn on the light. I stick with it because the Indigo software allow me to make sunrise and sunset to determine lights going on and off plus adds randomness so the lights don’t turn off at 10:05 every night, which makes me feel better when traveling.
