@drdrang Just bought one of those myself! On a related note, saw someone who automated a power strip to cut power every night at midnight, and now they never have to reset the clock on their microwave.

@jonm I saw that, too. A strong indication of how unintuitive the clock UI is on most microwaves.

@drdrang Awesome build, cool retro 3D printed case. Arduino? Pi? What distro does it run?

That’s what we used to use for our bearded dragon’s viv. They work really well. 😂

Sp got all fancy for the lights in the bird’s room though and replaced a light switch with a timer.

I agree they have a good purpose.

Ironically, following a power cut, I found my lamps on at 1:30am.

@drdrang WeHad one of those growing up but my parents would use it with a single lamp when we were on vacation.

I finally moved from X10 light switches to Insteon. So no sending signals over the Internet just to turn on the light. I stick with it because the Indigo software allow me to make sunrise and sunset to determine lights going on and off plus adds randomness so the lights don’t turn off at 10:05 every night, which makes me feel better when traveling.

@paulc @drdrang I'm an Insteon person too: All of the hardware works like dumb hardware but my PC can also communicate with it. Nothing in Insteon land ever fails in a harmful state.

@drdrang We have one of these for heating and hot water. There is smart lighting which is dimmable to accommodate light sensitivitiy.
