    I haven't set up a new code project in ages, but now I am doing so, and GitHub isn't anymore even a remotely within the options I'm considering. Given the constant corporation driven enshittification, the only viable options seems to be self host. And while I'm at it, I think I'll ditch git as well, and go with https://fossil-scm.org/ , a SCM developed and used by the sqlite team.

        @henrik
        If you want a forge-like experience, Codeberg is an European open-source alternative (running Forgejo): https://codeberg.org/

        They also have the interesting option of becoming a member which gives you voting rights regarding how the site is run.

        Also it's worth remembering that git doesn't require these forges at all.

          @Turre

          Fossil has all the forge capability baked in! But I'm actually now hosting a private repo, so the "visibility" of a project won't be an issue. Not that anyone was ever interested in my public repos anyways. πŸ˜‚

          I think fossil suites my needs better than git anyways.

            I was just about to continue that of course, if one is looking to get away from git, that's a somewhat different story πŸ˜…

            For me there are two tools that you'd have to pry away from my dead hands: vi(m) and git.
