@beyondmachines1 me at work:"Hey that AI icon thing on Jira, is that new?"
Guy in charge:" Oh we don't know why Atlassian turned it on. We definitely don't want people to use it because Atlassian says it's 'free for now' and won't tell us what it will cost later.. We don't want people to get used to it if we can't predict the cost."
The day after, the icon was gone. Not everyone in tech is a mindless drone. I usually like ny job.

@beyondmachines1 To be fair, AI has its use, right? Maybe the business model just got to be better, maybe token count might need tweaking -- maybe put weight to something like output value, rather than input/output count.
To be sure, AI should not replace humans, rather augment us.

@beyondmachines1 I just wish it would blow up in their faces more spectacularly. Like, with a bigger boom and not "quiet realization".

@toriver @fightscore @beyondmachines1 sounds like you never experienced an LLM finding the source of a production bug based on log files, code and given context, in less than 10min where you would have needed at least half a day

@fh0 @toriver @fightscore @beyondmachines1 and finding that bug is worth all the fucking misery that it brings? I'm so fed up with this argument, things don't exist in a void and magnitude matters. Please, use your brains and stop embarrassing yourselves before you use that goddamn argument again. Please.

@beyondmachines1 the absolute irony that that post was written by an LLM.

@beyondmachines1 Sounds like my unlimited data plan when I run into my data limit.

                  Can't even ping.

I actually never even thought about the emergencies. When me and the rest of the team is staying at 10PM because something broke and some giant customer is upset. Stting there trying to think what could have happened. What's going on. How to fix it. How to fix it without breaking anything else...

Granted, a lot of us just say "Fuck, whatever," to that last bit. That's how I imagine AI do.

@beyondmachines1 not only that - if ai works really well in your Field and there is Money to be made, why should AI-megacorp not take the money without you? The game is not called “free market”, but “dominance”. Ask Peter thiel…

@jaseg I know, and I agree that it _looks_ like AI slop. But that doesn't mean it _is_ AI slop, since the whole point of LLMs is to make stuff that looks like a human could've written it.

@chantaryu2 @beyondmachines1 They definitely turned it on for the reason that guy said - get people using it, screw everyone later. Atlassian was once the cheeky outsider and is now as bad as all the rest, imo. Like, in August they are going to start scraping their customers' data for AI training. They promised they wouldn't, but now they are. You can maybe opt out of some of it, but it depends on which version $$$ you're using. Enshittification at its finest.

@datenwolf Unironically, that could be a reason (not saying it is).
If you're talking to LinkedInsane people, it might be easier to use their way of communicating, than attempting to break through otherwise.
Cthulhu knows how poorly my posts have fared on linkedin, even when I wrote important stuff like "today I'm bored as fuck"

The thing is that you will spend half a day working on something else anyway so what's the point?

@ballalloi I don't get what you wanna say.
The point is, it is not simply black & white and the results aren't all useless. LLMs can be a helpful tool. (Doesn't imply that I think blindly using and trusting LLMs for everything is a good idea, nor that I don't see all the problems that it can cause.)
