I’m kind of at my wit’s end about something, and out of desperation I’m reaching out hoping someone might have a clue about what to do about a strange thing that’s happening with my iPhone. In a moment of insanity, I agreed to get put on the board of our homeowner’s association. I was added to a text group with the other board members. Now here’s where it gets weird. I’m not getting any of the messages in the group. They have my phone number right, and they get messages I send, but I see none of theirs. Unless, I power down and restart my phone, in which case all the messages come flooding in. Then, I stop receiving them again, until I repeat the powering off and rebooting. I’m part of several other threads, and this is the only one where this is happening. I wonder if it has anything to do with some of the group not using iPhones? I don’t know, I’m just trying to find a solution, and I really don’t want to make a trip to the Apple store. I feel like this is such an outlier. Has this ever happened to anyone else? I’d really like to get to the bottom of this. #A11Y #Blind #BlindTech #iPhone #VoiceOver
This happens with my android phone. Though for me, my phone is old and the T-Mobile tower it's negotiating with doesn't have all of the frequencies the phones needs for the very weird house of cards that became messaging on phones.
To test this theory for your phone. Take it to a different population center. City is good. And see if messages start appearing.
I would also recommend your group Signal, since it works over WiFi, and you can message from laptops as a backup.

@Thumper1964 I am less than an expert, but just in case you hadn't tried this, I would try a few things.
1. Check to see that your message options are not being filtered and messages are stored in iCloud. iOS 26 has introduced a whole bunch of filter options, some of which I consider to be strange.
2. Add the group to your contacts, if you haven't.
3. Make sure to use both the country code (+1), and also the correct area code when adding the group to your contacts.
4 Review the options in settings > messages, and see if all settings are what you want.
I've not had this issue, so perhaps I'm missing something vital, but that's what comes to mind to look at.

@Thumper1964 Sounds like it is related to RCS... maybe it's getting turned off/disconnected and briefly reconnects at startup?

@Thumper1964 I don't know, but I know my now-husband and I have had similar communication issues when AT&T (my service provider) was having network outages
in our case, early in the relationship it led to a couple of days of partial and nonsensical text messages, after which we finally reached each other on the phone and by email, figured out what was going on, and declared our love for each other
but I feel like the homeowner's association maybe that's not a desirable outcome

@Thumper1964 it sounds like something to do with RCS message settings. I had something similar on Fairphone running Android in the UK, where the number didn't port properly for text messages. Whatever weird equivalent Apple have for RCS.

@Thumper1964 Check whether the problem is iMessage. iMessage means that if you send a text from an iPhone to another iPhone, instead of sending an SMS, it sends an instant message via Apple's iMessage servers. If one of the phones has iMessage disabled, but the other phone has it enabled, it will try to send via iMessage but it won't be received. I would recommend for everyone in the group to disable iMessage.

@Thumper1964 we had a similar weird issue on a family group chat. We fixed it by recreating the group again. Never figured it out.

@Thumper1964 hmm perhaps verify what addresses you can send & receive from in Messages settings?

I'm an Android person, so my knowledge of iPhone's messaging is limited. But... do iPhones have a setting to clear the messaging cache? Export any messages you want to keep first, but clearing the cache might help. Other than that, I like the suggestion by @nomdeb to recreate the group, or at least remove and re-add your entry. -
