the complete absence of critique against #nlnet going full mask off militarism during #fosdem is deafening

this naive vision of free software hackers only involved in making things that "dont explode" for "defense"... has michiel heard of a TANK or a DRONE and how it works?

@d1 the talk was very jumbled and confused, and glued together with really weak ass western liberal world view and framing. end of history, stable peace since ww2 etc crap. buuuut was it outright full mask off militarism?
i understood it as lets get the military to pay to fix software infrastructure because its just like regular physical infrastructure that they'd have an interest in securing. do you take it as meaning building military specific 'defensive only' stuff?

@dantescanline "defense" is a euphemism for the military-industrial complex.
in NL, the princess has become a corporal, the government put 19 billion into "defense" and steal it from healthcare, housing and social welfare. there is fear that mandatory conscription returns.
in short, the militarisation of society. the final message of this presentation dovetails nicely into this trajectory with a frightening lack of friction

@dantescanline this line of thinking doesn't conflict with having us all in trenches
the military will not be donating to our open collective while we apt upgrade from the couch
does this not strike you as a military-industrial notice me senpai maneuver?
in NL, there's a rich history of anti-militarism, with one of the strongest anarchist movements in europe at the time which intervened in this struggle
social movements that demanded deescalation and political/social solutions for society...

@d1 i guess my thinking was this is not a sudden "mask off", its that nearly all people are pro military in that they are statists, and its like a lost cause to expect them to behave otherwise? and the only real revelation that the liberals / soft left are having is that the US did actually provide a lot of military support for europe, keeping their global economic position dominant.
maybe also im having a serious loss of faith in general, i look at the anarchist movements here and think wtf
