        @Geri

        Brexit is THE ABYSS and we're already in it.

        The telegraph supported brexit and the rightwing extremist farage.

          @Geri Yes its funny here but even as we speak the media moguls are despatching the teams of hitmen to find stories about anyone and anything "green". They will now be Corbyned into unvoteability as a threat to the status quo. Probably using exactly the same tactics.

          @Black_Flag @Geri to be honest, I think Zack's approach to smear campaigns is pretty resilient. A lot of his instagram page is just him reposting attempted hit pieces on him while laughing at the ridiculousness of them. The win in G&D shows that works, people aren't taking the smears seriously

                  A by-election isn't a General Election and he hasn't remotely faced the shitstorm yet. It gets exponentially harder when the entire press will be working for your downfall and they have many times the budget that you do. And it tires you out. There are a lot of shitbags out there very experienced at undermining perceived political threats.

                    Agreed. The continuation of the neoliberal project depends on fascists replacing insipid centrists, and what happens on one country can happen in others.

                      @Black_Flag @Geri well, true. Still, I think what we've seen so far gives a lot to be hopeful about. This wasn't a normal, quiet by-election; the Farage party (and to a lesser extent Labour) poured a lot of resources and effort into it only to come very distant. We shouldn't get ahead of ourselves, but I do think this is indicative of a broader shift in people's mindsets

                            I am seeing a lot of people expressing hopeful thoughts today but I am afraid I am far too realistic to swallow it. "Power concedes nothing without a demand." To the powerful The Greens are just one more upstart to be squashed. And you must remember that this was a Labour constituency anyway. Green was a safe protest vote.

                              Let's hope a progressive wave of politics can roll back neoliberalism across Europe.

                              Trump is an unwitting accomplice in this currently.

                                  I'm sure there was a certain amount of foreign influence too.

                                  Building consensus between countries is important in establishing new ways of working, and that's no less true for the progressives seeking to reverse neoliberalism than it was for those who imposed it in the first place.

                                    The fact that a woman is a plumber - and a newly-minted plasterer, to boot - no doubt detonated both braincells in a lot of these arseholes 😂

                                      @ReggieHere Yeah, but I wasn't being truly serious. I suspect politicians to think and act like adolescents, thinking they are smart and know it all, but they ain't seen nothing yet. I am highly cynical towards politicians.
