    Mailbox.org is one of those email providers that doesn’t get talked about as much as Proton Mail or Tuta, but it probably deserves more attention. I tested the service, looked at the trial limits, webmail, encryption options, and overall security posture. My review is here: https://paulobrien.com/mailbox-org-review-2026/

        @debacle @mailbox_org

        Nice point — that stood out to me too. Most email providers stop at mail, calendar and storage, so seeing XMPP/Jabber support in the mix does give mailbox.org a slightly different feel. It reinforces the idea that they’re building a broader communications service, not just another inbox.

          @pwob As you have mentioned about the trial account - it is basically useless if you want to actually test their service. Sure, you could create a second trial account and send/receive emails between the two, but it's not a real world test - it does require a 'leap of faith' to trust that all will work out if you then pay for their service. I took advantage of their 'Black Week' (2 years for the price of one) offer at the end of last year. So far, I've no complaints about the service.

              @pwob I will say, if the banner picture for an article is AI generated, it immediately makes me question if the review itself is AI generated too.

                @EMDiscussions That was exactly my concern. You can get a feel for the interface and settings, but not really test the service in the way most people would want before paying. It does ask for a bit of trust upfront. Good to hear your experience after paying has been positive though — that kind of real-world feedback is genuinely useful.

                  @ahasty That’s good to hear. Mailbox.org does come across as a service that inspires long-term loyalty once people are properly using it, which is usually a strong sign. My main criticism was really the trial experience, not the idea behind the service itself.

                    @foxyoreos That’s fair feedback. The writing and testing are mine, but I understand why AI-generated images can create that impression. I use them for visuals sometimes, not for the hands-on review itself. It’s a useful reminder that the image can affect how the article is read.
