A pet rat has three names. There's his rat name, which thumb-beasts never learn. There's the human-assigned name. Then there's the name he accumulates over time, developed from his character and demeanor.

My reptilian companion (whose lizard name is unknowable to us walking heating pads) was named Igor by me, but he's more often than not called Master Chubbyskink.

(He's not actually fat, but every healthy adult of his species is supposed to look kinda chunky.)
