Opuntia humifusa is a Prickly Pear Cactus of the US East Coast. This plant species has few spines but is covered in glochids at each areole that easily embed in skin, so it’s not a good choice for beginners. There are several pads showing new buds that will either become new pads or flowers, which are bright yellow. @edsullivan I'm growing a few in Vancouver .. they did ok with the winter, one had lots of buds, another has a few, the third has none. I think I'll be moving it!

@3DBill I keep mine in pots so I can move them around and follow the sun, which is in short supply from October to March. At least it used to be…
My personal experience with this plant has me treating it as rain tolerant (with fast draining soil and a clay pot). -
