      @Tutanota I totally agree with your assessment of free Google Services. What is your assessment of Apple?

      @swsecurity @Tutanota
      I’d say they *might* be better than google, but I still think it’s best to try and move away to better alternatives when the time is right.

        @Tutanota @edri
        I appreciate the decency of listing one of their main competitors services as a good alternative. It’s nice to see companies not hoodwinking each other at every turn.

          @Tutanota @edri does there exist a proper Google photos alternative? I'm happy to pay but can't find time to self host. Quite like their app, desktop syncing, chrome cast support and the face categorization features among other things.

                  @Tutanota @edri ah yes, but I have seen an enormous rise in spam since I joined Mastodon that I have not seen in the days of the Meta platforms… 😕

                    @ente is probably the best out there if you can't self-host. Their free 10GB plan is really good and paid starts at 50GB - 2.50€/mo.

                    All your photos are e2ee, which means only you can access them. Even if ente's servers got hacked the attackers would only see random crap.
                    They have all the features you mentioned and more (didn't try Chromecast, but they do have something similar using a browser).

                      What private alternative to google forms would you recommend?

                      Ideally something that does not require respondents to log in. Thank you!

                        @Tutanota @edri Every client I support who's open to ditching Google apps has one indispensable requirement of any replacement of Google apps: They must be able to view their Google, Microsoft, and Google-replacement accounts in the same OS-native mail, contacts, and calendar apps. This serves two purposes:

                        1. They need to see their personal and work communications and schedules in the same window. This is essential, for example, to avoid double-booking themselves.

                        2. They need to be able to gradually transition between their old personal accounts and their new, as they update contact information with one person, business, nonprofit, and government agency at a time.

                        For #E2EE services, this requires a local SMTP, IMAP, CalDAV, and CardDAV bridge (or, for mobile devices lacking support for this, a self-hosted bridge and a VPN to which).

                        What options provide this capability?
