      @flyingsaceur

      I got the Icom speaker that matches my 7300, but via the HRO consignment store, so I saved about 40%. I wouldn't have paid full price for it, but a front facing speaker is worth it for the way I have my shack set up.

      On the other hand, I barely ever use it, give most of my operating is digital modes and I use a headset with a mic on it when I'm operating SSB.

        @flyingsaceur whatever sounds good to you is what counts. you're the only one who's gotta listen to it.

          @macross the Kenwood SP-23 looks slick as hell but they are charging at least fifty feet of LMR-400 for it. Is it just a $20 speaker in a $100 metal box? Might be a fun 3D printer project to roll my own

            @flyingsaceur the answer to that specific question is that branded, color-match speakers are typically nothing special inside the fancy chassis, you are paying for the aesthetic.

            I go with vintage radioshack Minimus desk reference speakers for my radios, they also happen to look good, and can generally be found at resale shops for not much, meaning you can buy speakers AND coax instead of one or the other.

              @flyingsaceur with a preference for small "communications" speakers optimized for voice. No need for HiFi.

                  @flyingsaceur they sound good, too. theyve got a lot of gravity to 'em, so they dont vibrate in places they ain't supposed to.
