@TTFKA_Tay0 I don't think so, I believe I've heard of that as like an old timey del taco competitor, but I've never seen one

@DonChacale it is. There's not really a good alternative to google maps, for example, and even though i use duckduckgo for my searching, it fails enough that i still have to use google for some searching. And my community college uses gmail for student email accounts. Google has its fingers in a lot of things

Now I know why you associated them with Del Taco. They're gone but sort of revived.

They never seem to bring up the fact that a cocktail is like $20 now unless you go to a really divey dive bar. It's the same kind of reporting they on how no one goes to the movies anymore. It's always about changing habits, and never that movie tickets just cost a lot now.

@MLE_online Reminds me of a headline from The Onion awhile back. Something like: Local bar supports the sober community by offering $16 mocktails.

@MLE_online Yes, and it ruins people's lives. I'm not advocating for a ban, but pretending less people drinking is something inherently bad is very much outside of the "responsibly dealing with drugs" category.

There are limits, and if I can buy two bottles of vodka from the grocery store for the price of a single cocktail, I'm going to opt to not have that cocktail most of the time

@MLE_online you know what else they don’t mention? How despite this very well known trend restaurants still refuse to offer non-alcoholic cocktail options. Teetotalers like myself often get stuck with options like soda that frankly I’d rather just buy cheaper and drink at home since there’s nothing fun about it.

I think almost every restaurant I go to with non-alcoholic cocktails/unique drinks I have purchased something.

@gneilyo Right? Rent for business spaces is crazy high in a lot of cities now, but you never hear them making a stink about that in public

@MLE_online @gneilyo I read that in Dallas rent includes some percentage of the restaurants take. That is completely insane to me. Like why should the rent increase because you're more successful? Restaurants should put that breakdown on the bill.

@DonChacale @MLE_online comaps is great but is also nowhere near as useful as Google maps. I have to use comaps plus a transit app for train/bus schedules and I don't get live traffic. none of that is a super huge problem for me but it is reallllllllly annoying. Like I've gone a long way towards degoogling, to the point of having my own server to replace Photos. even so I still have Maps

@MLE_online For what it's worth, you have my sympathy. More seriously, the point of my post was that for a substantial portion of the population, there's a solution for the same or lower price with less harmful side effects than alcohol. For those who can't use THC, and for those who can and don't, in fairness, there are also ways to destress that don't involve drugs. Those ways are also typically cheaper and less potentially harmful than alcohol.

@disorderlyf If they're not putting alcohol in their drinks, they should be much, much cheaper, but those mocktails are expensive as hell, too. They just charge way too much for all of it
