    “The govt’s plans to ‘poach’ 100 US researchers might make good economic sense.

    These rare, prestigious posts are backed by Can$1 billion in federal investment to attract 100 researchers over the next 12 years.
    Such positions — named Canada Impact+ Research Chairs (CIRCs) — are touted as a long-term investment, but the majority are expected to be filled in the first year.”

          @AnnaAnthro@mastodon.social @stephanie@ottawa.place When Trump started threatening us and attacking science we could have massively invested in basic science and got them to come, but instead we went with austerity and public sector cuts and now any scientist worth anything is going to flee to Europe instead of Canada.
