    I found out on the weekend I was given a different last name at birth and it was changed a few months later.

    Does this affect anything? I feel like I’ve accidentally lied on some important applications.

          @erin It probably doesn't have any practical implications, so long as your birth certificate itself was correctly changed. It's not like you would have had many other records under the old name. Maybe if you ever needed to find & prove very early vaccinations?

            @AmeliasBrain everything is accurate and I have all my vaccination records. I’ve had zero issues with identification in life. Such an odd thing to find out so non chalantly on a Saturday afternoon in my mid 30’s.

              @erin @AmeliasBrain
              I've learned from experience that having different surnames on different important documents can prove complicated if you want to live in another country. However, if all of your documents match up, it's just very strange and disconcerting to learn about; no complications otherwise.

                @erin I would find that so weird, like I've been living a double life. Now you have a true alias.

                  @erin Surprise!

                  I have a family member who has two different surnames on different documents. It causes an issue with the province of Québec when comes the time to deal with them; they don’t recognize the name used by Canada… only the one on their health card.
