Jess Phillips is rightly angry about growing number of cases where perpetrators' interests seem to have been prioritised over those of rape victims.

'We are essentially asking the girls in Fordingbridge, and now these new cases reported in the Guardian, to essentially suck it up for the sake of the perception of what is best for the perpetrators. I think absolutely this all needs looking at'!

@ChrisMayLA6 Totally agree, the fact the young males have committed a heinous crime, means they have to earn their redemption when they are older. If indeed they can.

@ChrisMayLA6 she’s absolutely right of course but as she’s also a committed member of the Epstein wing of the Labour Party then I think we can just ignore her hypocrisy…

@JimmyB @ChrisMayLA6 wider problem with misogyny and toxic masculinity (starting at young ages for boys) predates Internet/social media by decades.
My own mother was part time school teacher in 1980s/90s (she passed away over a decade ago aged in early 70s) and was concerned at increasing level of this amongst her pupils.
She was a fairly devout Christian, and blamed this on "permissive society", and in 2000s returned to her native Malaysia for as long as she could stay there but also keep her UK visa, teaching at a more religious school (where she claimed kids were better behaved and disciplined).
I agree penalties need to be stricter - but at the same time there's a real risk that Labour simply limit *all* youths freedoms as a "quick solution"..

@ChrisMayLA6 feel Jess Phillips is sincere apart from the hint at the censor the Internet (age verification) comment towards the end.
Something in society needs to change. For me, people need to learn to treat each other well and abide by the laws of the land. As others have said, this starts when kids are little. Watching traditional values slow die and many people only caring about the 'self' just emphasises how bad things are becoming with the worry they are also getting worse.

In the 1970s, I remember a Cardiff judge refusing to give a convicted Welsh Guardman’s rapist a custodial sentence because “It would ruin his army career” 🤬
We’ve gone back 50 years 🤬
