Something in society needs to change. For me, people need to learn to treat each other well and abide by the laws of the land. As others have said, this starts when kids are little. Watching traditional values slow die and many people only caring about the 'self' just emphasises how bad things are becoming with the worry they are also getting worse.

My own mother was part time school teacher in 1980s/90s (she passed away over a decade ago aged in early 70s) and was concerned at increasing level of this amongst her pupils.

She was a fairly devout Christian, and blamed this on "permissive society", and in 2000s returned to her native Malaysia for as long as she could stay there but also keep her UK visa, teaching at a more religious school (where she claimed kids were better behaved and disciplined).

I agree penalties need to be stricter - but at the same time there's a real risk that Labour simply limit *all* youths freedoms as a "quick solution"..
