Elaeomyxa cerifera is a rare, highly iridescent slime mold (myxomycete) known for its "disco ball" appearance, found in damp forests of Australia, this tiny organism is neither plant nor animal nor true fungus, but a protist. During its feeding stage (the plasmodium), it behaves like a giant, pulsating amoeba, it hunts and moves. Similar to other slime molds, this organism displays intelligent behavior despite having no brain or nervous system. It can find the shortest route through a maze to reach food and can remember where it has already explored.
