@Ashedryden A doctor tried to use chat gpt during an ER visit recently. And you know what? While he did agree to turn it off, I no longer trusted him after that and basically stopped giving him the ful story of what was gong on with me.

@Ashedryden
GI doc a few months ago “would you mind if I used AI transcription for this visit?”
Rheumatologist this week “I’m going to use AI to transcribe our visit, ok?”Both got the response of no, rheumatologist very clearly surprised and annoyed I said no. GI doc at least phrased the request in the proper manner!
(I’m in California)

@Ashedryden Sadly, I work for a company that’s trying to sell its solution to providers like Ivy Creek, Clarinda, and others in the U.S., so that follow-up calls and even some diagnostic assessments can be handled by AI.
Needless to say, the product is crap, and I would not let a family member receive that kind of care for anything in the world.
I’m actively looking for another job, I do not want to have anything to do with this shit.

@Ashedryden this should be considered a hipaa violation and i cannot imagine how it's not

@wawagirl @Ashedryden the case is going to hinge on whether the hospitals have a BAA with the company and if they themselves actually meet HIPAA. hospitals can actually share much more under HIPAA than most people think, provided they have a BAA with a company doing the raw processing and that BAA is supposed to state that they are also compliant.
i still think this use is morally repugnant, but the case likely won't hold unless they show noncompliance and damages.

@Ashedryden I let my cats' vet use it for their visits. My cats have boring social histories (nothing more exciting than occasional catnip use). But when medical patients come to me, I don't use it. People already have a hard enough time trusting doctors -- of only because we've been made the human- facing end of the med-pharma-insurance complex.

@Ashedryden I guess "Patient Confidentiality" and Ethics don't exist under for-profit healthcare…

@bweller @wawagirl @Ashedryden I had to look up BAA. It's Business Associate Agreement, in case that saves anyone a step

@Ashedryden There is NO way to ensure ANY level of confidentiality about ANYTHING once present-day generative #AI has gotten hold of it. Its use in healthcare with private health information should be strictly prohibited.
