    When someone says „Scientists do not want you to know“ you can dismiss everything from there on. Scientists want you to know. They are desperate that you know. They can’t shut up about what they found out and want you to know.

      @jascha Scientists probably don't want you to listen to flat earth no-vaccines guy, but that's because someone did the debunking 50 years ago back when that seemed worth doing.

      50 years ago?

      Maybe for vaccines.

      We¹ knew the Earth is round 600 BC, and had calculated the circumference by 300 BC.

      ¹) The people who lived in Greece back then, of course none of us had been born yet.

        Also, it scientists are worried, you should be alarmed. If they alarmed, you should be panicking. If they are panicking, it's all over.

          @leeloo @jascha Yeah, but it had to be debunked all over again in the 1970s.

            @knowprose @GutterPoetry @jascha Wrong nuance.

            Your little hair split doesn't even matter because you left out the important bit:

            * Is there a system of misogyny in medical science that results in improper medicine? Yes.

            "But not everyone is misogynistic..." 🙄

            You're not even making a point even though you think it's a very important one.

            "nuance" <- ass

            @crazyeddie @GutterPoetry @jascha i am glad for the response.

            The point is broad brushes don't hit the corners that do need to be addressed.

            Like heart attacks in women. Ketone in urine related to diabetic comas. Etc.

            Overuse causes these things to be lost in the broad brush.

            And again, misogyny assumes intent. It's in the very definition of the word, pre-supposing.

            Oversight happen regardless of intent.

              "Scientists do not want you to know“ is the same kind of snake oil lie as "They didn't teach you this about history in school!"

              It wasn't your high school teacher's job to force feed *everything* into the unwelcoming territory of your brain while you stared glassy-eyed through the window. Go read some books and stop trying to market your willful incuriosity as persecution victimhood.

                @crazyeddie @GutterPoetry @jascha now, derptron, if you wish to call me an ass because of that point, that's on you.

                At least you did not call me a misogynist. That was the obvious trap.

                Misogyny exists. The problem is what needs to be addressed regardless of intent, and that is bigger than all of us.

                Good talk. 🙃

                  There's a conspiracy theory that's been around for as long as I know; that a cure for cancer has been found, but is being kept secret because the pharmaceutical corporations have paid off the discoverer(s).
                  As if someone could resist the acclaim, the historical significance and the Nobel Prize.

                      @jascha Also, "they paid off the scientists to say [something untrue]" (or to hide the truth) is another sign that the speaker doesn't know a damn thing about scientists (and probably has an axe to grind and/or some snake oil to sell you).

                      If they were that motivated by money, they wouldn't have gone into science in the first place. They'd have gotten an MBA or something.

                                  @jascha Having worked with Data Scientists, it’s rare to find them exercised about something unless they’re very sure or concerned about it. If there was the slightest chance the data was exaggerated or incorrect they would be very quiet.

                                  After all, their career depends on their reputation for providing accurate predictions.

                                        @jascha "*anyone* don't want you to know" is one of the title templates that I simply skip altogether. Other honorable mentions are "# must things to do to/before/with #" and "*any statement*, and why it is a good thing".

                                          Just think of all those brilliant scientists driven to evil madness BECAUSE no one would listen to them!
