Don't be fooled, China is not a green example, most of its energy comes from coal and it continues to invest on new coal.

Some people also attack nuclear energy which isn't causing climate change, coal and gas (fossil fuels) are.

@hadon
China is categorized as a "developing nation" for the climate agreements...the worlds 2nd largest economy. -

@hadon I'm no superfan of China, but "don't believe the hype" seems to be a bit of an interesting take when you've got a chart from 2024 and China's exploding in renewables faster than, in some ways, the rest of the world combined.
There's a PDF at https://ember-energy.org/latest-insights/china-energy-transition-review-2025/ that states "In early 2025, the capacity of wind and solar combined overtook that of coal.".
At https://www.cet.energy/2026/03/18/summary-of-chinas-energy-and-power-sector-statistics-in-2025/ you can see on page 3 there that China's power generation capacity is 60% renewables.

Coal has continued to increase. In 2025 China built more coal plants than any other year on the previous decade.
Proposals to build coal-fired plants in China reached a record high in 2025, finds a new study.
https://www.carbonbrief.org/rush-for-new-coal-in-china-hits-record-high-in-2025-as-climate-deadline-looms/“The scale of the buildout is staggering,” says report co-author Christine Shearer of Global Energy Monitor. “In 2025 alone, China commissioned more coal power capacity than India did over the entire past decade.”

"In 2025, China’s new and reactivated coal power project proposals surged to a record high, while capacity additions that came online reached the highest annual level in a decade, even as clean energy put China’s CO2 emissions into reverse for the first time and drove down coal power generation."

And for 2026 we need to watch out since the war in Iran may be used as an excuse to increase coal even more:

https://www.powermag.com/china-restarting-massive-coal-to-gas-project-after-decade-long-pause/@hadon What exactly would you have them do if the rest of the world can't cut their consumption of everything?
Again, I'm not a China supporter, but each of those articles describes a reason for why they're doing what they're doing.
The "hype" still in general describes how much effort and capacity around renewables they're bringing online, and if we all weren't consuming so much crap, they could settle down and start cutting more emissions while continuing to build the cheaper electricity.
I would be more focused on helping the AI bubble pop.
