    I realise this is a small thing in the scheme of everything, but FFS...

    A staycation is staying at home and doing holiday stuff.

    Booking holiday accommodation and traveling away from home is a holiday - EVEN IF IT'S THE SAME COUNTRY.

    Cannot adequately express how much this bugs me.

    Seasoned staycationers share their favourite spots as Airbnb and Booking.com say interest in UK stays are up on last year.

      If Airbnb and booking.com are involved - IT'S A HOLIDAY.

        Thank you! This also annoys me. By their definition, pretty much every holiday anyone took before the 1970s was a 'staycation'. Going on holiday never implied going to a different country. Places like Brighton and Blackpool were seaside holiday destinations, not seaside staycation destinations (which is not a thing).

          @Bumblefish Oh, it's worth a lot - thanks 😁

          There are so many things about it that are wrong and, frankly, rude.

              I suppose it a matter of class and how many second homes you have.

                It is very expensive to book a holiday in Britain. Best stay home and visit places nearby and maybe some day out trips

                  @david_chisnall Yes!

                  And I love a bit of domestic tourism. The idea that I can travel for 5 hours, and spend a week in a lighthouse on a clifftop, and it's not a holiday because it's still in Scotland is just pants.

                        @Christo_459 I think there are some affordable options, but they are becoming more and more difficult to find (in Scotland you could find some great value self catering if you avoided the Big Websites, but the degradation of search engines has really hurt that).

                        There's a lot of fun to be had with local exploration and day trips too. Very happy with both staycations and domestic holidays to exist.

                              @eclectech yes!

                              Staycation used to be used to encourage a reduction in travel, to make day trips and spending local seem more fun and appealing. Now it's being used to subtly discredit holidays in the UK, suggesting only abroad "counts".

                              It stinks.

                                  @eclectech you are not alone in this fight! This has slid for far too long. There need to be consequences.

                                    @eclectech ugh. It sounds like the BBC doesn't even understand the average person enough to respect them.

                                      @Theriac Hahaha, I spent so long being annoyed at the misapplied concept I hadn't even thought about the word. I mean, basically, they mean "time off work doing nice things".

                                          @david_chisnall Yes!

                                          And I love a bit of domestic tourism. The idea that I can travel for 5 hours, and spend a week in a lighthouse on a clifftop, and it's not a holiday because it's still in Scotland is just pants.

                                          @eclectech Yup, we’re going to Exeter (where I grew up, but haven’t been back to for over 20 years) on holiday this week. And then have a staycation planned for a week after we get back.
