Most peculiarly, we do not stop at Emmerich to collect our traditional ‘Verspätung aus dem Ausland’ courtesy of the Bundespolizei.

We do collect a seven minute delay behind a freight train to keep synchronisity with the seven minute delayed ‘Reparatur an einer Weiche’ next train labeled 13A.

Osnabrück and we can put another cross on the Bingocard with ‘Hohe Streckenauslastung’. Delay now +19.

Somehow the previous delay reason has morphed into ‘Verspätung eines vorausfahrenden Zuges’, which means at Bremen we’re down to +16.

‘Reparatur an einer Oberleitung’ means I have ample choice for my next leg. I’ll skip the poll here on which train to take next.

@patrick Yeah but you can go through the City Tunnel via Landungsbrücken.

But taking the ICE is certainly nicer, anyway.

@samcage A good question. I tend to taste them all three, then decide on which order I’ll finish them. As they were of similar strength, it was right, left, middle (ascending order of liking).

But enough beer. My next train is a Nordbahn Regionalbahn. It’s a FLIRT, but a battery one. So my first battery-electric train. Nordbahn has converted all their previous diesellines to battery electric.

So whilst some had expected me to take a ferry from Kiel, that wasn’t the plan. There are three rail connections northwards from Hamburg: on the west coast towards Husum and Sylt, via Rendsburg and via Eckernförde. That last one is the one I’m taking, though as the rail bridge is in deplorable condition and can’t take the weight of trains or cars anymore, you have to walk across. They’ve started construction on a new bridge which is planned to be ready in 2027 (but locals say they’ll believe that after they’ve crossed it).

An early start today at 6am towards Denmark. The next one is bus replacement as read on numerous threads here so let’s just say I’m getting used to summertime already. It is getting light already but it’s hidden by a constant drizzle.
