Maybe I've already posted it, but this was my desktop in early 2000.

@stefano man, the scanner is bringing back memories!
-
@jpetazzo it was a IOmega Zip drive

@stefano beast π₯°

@stefano I see that pic and many memories come with that scanner and the Zip drive and its click of death.

A classic, open case, never-ending fun, and endless upgrades

@qwertz thatβs the reason why it was always open

@stefano Not one, but two optical drives. Let me guess, the burner is CD only and the other drive can read DVDs but can't burn?
Why the extra little driver on top of the speaker? Was it modded to have, like a super tweeter for reaching 40KHz frequencies or something?

@stefano Good ol'ubiquitous Zip drive!
@miodvallat @stefano Until it gets the ominous "click of death"
(I had 2 iomega zip drives)

@nazokiyoubinbou one was a burner (slow in both reading and burning), the other one a faster, more compatible CD reader. No DVDs, yet.
The little driver was a weird experiment: I connected a sub woofer and that twitter to my amp, Different impedance, it was a mess. But it sounded surprisingly good

@stefano
Nice battlestation

@miodvallat @stefano I remember transferring data from 41 different floppy disks onto a single ZiP disk and it felt great not having all those floppy disks lying around taking up space.

@pertho @miodvallat Having a dialup connection at home, I used those Zip drives to download stuff at Uni's lab and bring that stuff to my computer
