You know that “stop forcing AI into fucking everything” graphic that went around on here?

I bought the t-shirt. I get a lot of compliments on it.

The only negative response was from a friend who works for McKinsey. She read out the “everyone hates it” and said, “do they really, though?” as we stood near the check-in table for an event, and three people in line turned around and said, “YES!”

@maco @GeoffWozniak I think *constantly* about their claim that generative "AI" will add no less than $2,600,000,000,000 to the global economy

      sure jan.

@Linza @maco @GeoffWozniak getting paid to write fanfic for a corporate client isn't fraud, alas. they got exactly what they paid for (that is: a document full of complete fabrications)

good work if you can stomach it

@Linza if a company goes on to use the result of the mckinsey report to commit fraud, sure, it's fraud

the report itself is not fraud. it's just stupid.

@SnoopJ So if I pay someone else to make product claims, gather money based on those claims, fail to deliver, and the people who gave me money based on those claims suffer harm, that's *not* illegal? What is the US doing?

@the_turtle @rebootdeluxe @itsmeholland once we get off the hobby it’s probably what other hobbies do you have, restaurant recommendations, families…

But upcoming events are always a discussion topic that brings it back to the hobby. “Did you hear Germán Filipeli and Rocío Leguizamón are visiting next month? Are you signing up for their class?” “Are you headed to Kingdom Arts & Sciences Festival? I’m entering the pentathlon this year.”

@SnoopJ well that’s about the magnitude of capex that is enabling such thing as “crucial won’t sell me RAM anymore” and “where did all the SSDs go,” so it’s maybe technically correct… AI enabled venture capital spending on unprecedented levels. We are now in the “???” part of the plan.

@standev the claim in the report is about productivity writ large (i.e. the total size of the global market), not capex specifically.

the capex you're talking about *might* generate new value, but I doubt it will even get within two orders of magnitude of the claimed figure. I don't even think it will break even.

@SnoopJ oh for sure it’s a BS claim, they are just boosting on-paper economy by burning $
