Guy who took home $40 million in gold bars from CIA office supply closet is criminally charged with padding his resume.
-
sigh, this is potentially so bad
indictments can be supersededthe 1st indictment is the easiest to charge, so they can hold him with bail
right ?
@failedLyndonLaRouchite almost certainly. One open question is whether the resume padding was discovered while investigating the gold, or vise versa.

Guy who took home $40 million in gold bars from CIA office supply closet is criminally charged with padding his resume. Because you have to draw the line somewhere.
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/may/29/cia-official-gold-theft-trial@mattblaze There is absolutely no way to read the phrase "...discovered missing from an office he used at a government storage space" and NOT picture some guy rolling by with the Ark of the Covenant in a box on a pallet jack. -
@mattblaze @armb "THE HILTON ONLY TAKES GOLD BARS"
-
@ai6yr PLEASE BE CONSIDERATE OF YOUR CO-WORKERS AND TAKE ONLY AS MANY GOLD BARS AS YOU NEED.
@mattblaze @ai6yr meanwhile, in the office I work out of there are signs in all of the supply cabinets declaring them to be off-limits to anyone not working on a specific charge code and all but demanding that you stop even looking at the cabinet.

Kinda defeats the purpose if you announce that you're a spy...

@mattblaze @armb @ai6yr what, like none of you ever shaved a gold bar for exact fare, or price of a good or service, huh.

“Rush made several requests ... to obtain a significant quantity of foreign currency and tens of millions of dollars in gold bars for work-related expenses"
Work. Related. Expenses.
Are legitimate requisitions for gold bars so common that this fraudulent request just got lost in the shuffle?

@scooter @mattblaze @scooter As with so many other things, it’s who you tell the lies to that makes the difference. Lie to foreign spies, the general public, or Congress? Groovy. Lie to the boss? Book ‘em, Danno.

@ahimsa_pdx @mattblaze "FORM: Which country are these gold bars intended to bribe?"

@mattblaze @ai6yr there are territorial claims on meeting rooms that officially don’t belong to anyone. You book a meeting in someone else’s general vicinity and you might find the meeting room uninvites itself.

@ahimsa_pdx @ai6yr I wonder if his homeowner’s insurance covers gold bars for covert operations. You probably need a fairly expensive rider for that.

"David, $40M is a lot in gold bars for a bribe!"
"Jeff, do you know how much it costs to invade a country? BILLIONS! I'm saving the US taxpayers a lot of money with these gold bars!"
