So Covid infection rate is 4% when it's running high, right?

The birthday party in the 2018-19 #AndesVirus outbreak had 100 guests, 1 was infected & 5 got infected from that event so 5% right?

There were roughly 150 people on the ship. One was infected & 8 got infected. So 5%

*Hard to keep track and I'm trying not to include secondary infections.

Wouldn't that mean Andes is more infectious than #Covid surge? Am I mathing wrong?

I'm not talking death rate but infectious rate

@justyourluck if I remember correctly the COVID infection rates on a cruise ship were much higher. And with these very long incubation times in Hanta we have not seen all yet. The concerning thing is that we do not know when people become infectious during the 1 to 8 weeks until symptom onset. On the positive side, we have contained Hanta outbreaks in the past, it is possible.

@justyourluck Maybe COVID infection rates are like 4% in a population that is vaccinated and/or has gotten some immunity from past infections, but in unvaccinated naive groups, the rate of COVID-19 infection was MUCH higher.

For example, the Skagit Valley Chorus outbreak had 52 out of 61 people get infected; three were hospitalized and two died. https://www.cascadiadaily.com/2025/mar/13/5-years-after-covid-outbreak-in-skagit-county-choir-families-take-the-chance-to-remember/
