    The way that Unit 42 wrote the report referenced here (https://unit42.paloaltonetworks.com/shadow-campaigns-uncovering-global-espionage/) stood out to me as very unusual so it's good to have confirmation that it was, in fact watered down.

    It was so obvious in that report, which includes specific descriptions of campaigns, targeting, and motivation across 15+ different countries, that it was a Chinese state-aligned actor. (At one point in the report they even specifically said "Sino-Metals Leach Zambia". I guess people can CTRL-F for "China" but not "Sino"...) They were so specific in this report that them trying so hard to avoid saying the word "China" by itself spoke volumes.
