A Dutch newspaper (AD) recently published an explanation of why many people find vegetarians and vegans annoying. In short, it boils down to the fact that vegans are right and serve as a living mirror for people who actually feel guilty about their animal-unfriendly consumption.

Maybe I am being annoyingly logical, but then just stop eating meat. Bye bye cognitive dissonance.

    See pt

Incidentally, vegetarians find vegans annoying too, because they do understand, to some extent, that consuming animal excretions is rather nonsensical.

@Remke lol we do eat meat and dairy incidentally, so I would not call myself a preachy vegan by any stretch of the definition, but in a discord server I once commented on someone showing off their sausage haul for the month 'wow that's at least more than double the yearly meat consumption of our family of five' and got kicked off the server for being, and I quote, 'a judgmental and preachy vegan'

@Remke I am thinking that the same cognitive dissonance explains why so many people my age who have been driving cars all their lives but who also helped create the US environmental movement hate bicyclists. (Disclaimer: I own a car and ride my bike.)

@Remke yeah, this seems to be a very common pattern with other topics as well

Wow, I would say your response was quite neutral. That person must have had doubts about that amount of meat on some level.
Back in the day, on the bird site, I commented rather Vegany on someone posting a picture of a big salami sausage. They actually appreciated that and we are still vague friends, ten years later. In fact, it's their birthday today.

@Remke also please note that I did not counter my being called judgmental.

@Remke oh you can just live great with the cognitive dissonance. Just accept that you are doing something wrong if you don't want to stop and let the vegetarians and vegans do their thing accepting that they, in this regard, do better than you. It's called ambiguity tolerance.

Oh and you are still right, just stop eating meat.
