    AI powered microwave. Everyone must be laughing at this. This is such a joke.

    People don't even use the damn popcorn button and that ... kind of works.

    @futurebird

    So I assume you just put whatever in the microwave and it knows what it is and knows better than you what you want done with it ?

      @futurebird

      replacing a demonstrably bad algorithm (popcorn button) with an even more random setting via AI is definitely not progress. i can only imagine what kind of burned mess you might wind up scraping out of your microwave before you try to kill the stench it caused in your kitchen...

        @futurebird honestly I’ve stopped paying attention to these stunts. They’re not designed to be useful products, they’re designed to get the company acquired.

        I wish we could just have a techbro science fair instead and cut out the mass production part

        @futurebird shit I just realized the techbro science fair already exists, it’s called CES

          @futurebird that button is a con. I found out you have to buy special bags EVERY time you want popcorn! I thought we were living in the future

            I've been meaning to research how that popcorn button works. I mean is it just a fixed time chosen for standard size bags (but they're different sizes)? Or is it listening to the pops (there's a mic in my microwave)? Or is it some extremely clever microwave feedback trick (???)?

              You can't have any popcorn until you enter the wifi password and download the new firmware.

              This is the definition of HELL.

                    @the5thColumnist

                    People will try that one (1) time and it won't work just right then they will press the +0:30 seconds button over and over like most people do with most microwaves.

                    Until they upgrade the firmware and the microwave refuses to do anything until you login one day. Then they will throw it away.

                      @futurebird the popcorn button might as well be hard wired to the fire alarm system.

                      Almost every fire alarm when I lived in the dorms was somebody using the popcorn button on the microwave and burning the popcorn.

                          Now imagine how much better it could be with AI. Not only would it start the fire alarm, it'd keep adding seconds as it saw fit until the whole thing legitimately bursts into flame.

                              What is it with the microwave popcorn producers always telling you to "For the love of God, do not use the popcorn button!"

                              Every package says to not use it. What's up with that?

                              I'd never heard of this before, so I had to check for myself. I just never had the desire to use the popcorn button, I was always a 'wait until it stops audibly popping' sort of girl.

                              And damned if it's not right there.

                              (Now I have popcorn, at least.)

                                        AI powered microwave. Everyone must be laughing at this. This is such a joke.

                                        People don't even use the damn popcorn button and that ... kind of works.

                                        @futurebird I’m not laughing, necessarily, depending on the “AI” tech being used.

                                        I have rice maker we bought when we lived in Japan, 2009-2011. It uses “fuzzy logic “ to make what you want and it makes PERFECT RICE every time, regardless of the type of rice or if the water amount is not exactly right. Fuzzy logic has been around since the ‘80s. (Same tech controls where to position elevators in skyscrapers).

                                          I want an AI-powered microwave that runs a 15 second self-cleaning operation to interfere with the 2.4MHz band, every time it detects someone connecting a legacy 802.11n device or router next door that invades the air space here...

                                          @petabites @futurebird You can make a decent short range EMP weapon out of an old microwave oven. DIY plans on the internet. Illegal in most jurisdictions of course. My comment is purely educational in intent.
