German "Treasure Hunt" folk tales are weird enough to fit into plenty of role-playing games. Here is an example:
From time to time, a "golden wagon" rolls out of lake known to be inhabited by water spirits. This wagon has no visible driver, but moves around on its own accord and patrols the limit of the territory belonging to the water spirits.
People can attempt to capture this price. However, if any person in this treasure hunting party says even a single word, "invisible hands" will throw all of them on top of the wagon, which will then return to the lake and drown them all.
